Wood and stone in interior styles. Design with wood and stone for all rooms of the house

Posted on June 24, 2022June 24, 2022 By Berkner Designs

Wood and stone are welcome guests in the interior of a country house. They are perfectly combined and suitable for decorating all rooms. Your task is to choose the right materials and make them complement each other.

Stone and wood in the interior: the gifts of nature for an original design

Wood – a source of strength, home warmth and peace of mind. This natural material perfectly harmonizes with the mysterious and versatile stone. The combination of elements will give a unique atmosphere and make even an unpretentious interior appealing.

If you want to create an unusual home decoration, do not be afraid to play with different textures. You can take popular variants of materials that will form the basis of the decor.

Room design under stone and wood: advantages and disadvantages

Consider the advantages of each material. Stone creates sound and heat insulation in the room, looks great thanks to the variety of forms and retains perfect external qualities for a long time. Wood is also excellent heat retention, does not emit harmful substances and has a pleasant smell.

And now about the advantages of wood and stone interiors:

Versatility. Natural materials will fit into any style: somewhere they will be a base element, and somewhere an accent;

Eco-friendliness. Wooden and stone details are absolutely non-toxic;

Unrepeatability. Each element has its own structure, pattern, texture, so even typical designs are different.

The only disadvantage is the relatively high cost of natural materials. However, it is always possible to use in the decor of improvised trifles and imitation of natural gifts.

Design “wood and stone” for different rooms

Materials are so versatile that they can be used to decorate any room. If you decide to use such a combination, study the recommendations of designers on the competent design of rooms.

Hallway

Parquet and wooden furniture – universal solutions for the hallway. The walls can be decorated with stone masonry or use bricks for decoration. The role of the accent will suit paintings or bookshelves.

Living Room

It is possible to play with stone in the wooden interior of the living room in different ways. For example, decorate the ceiling with massive beams, and the walls with stone slabs. The more embossed the elements will be, the more interesting the design will turn out.

If the room is decorated in a modern style, such as loft or fusion, you can include in the decor some details from natural materials. Minimalistic wooden compositions, stone heads of animals, masonry on the walls look good.

Kitchen

There are many options for finishing a wooden house, but the most popular option for kitchens is stone masonry combined with wall panels of a natural shade. The apron over the work surface can be decorated with tiles, and the floor – with porcelain tiles.

Bathroom

It is better to be more careful with wood in the bathroom – despite good processing, the material is unstable to high humidity. But the walls, pasted with tiles, look luxurious and solid. Another option for decor – stone chips. In combination with an acrylic bathtub, this design looks amazing!

Bedroom

You can decorate three walls in the room with wood, and the fourth – opposite the bed, decorate with stone. If you have a room in the classical style, the option with stone arched openings and columns will do.

Children’s room

In a child’s room, you can allocate the floor in the play area with colored stone tiles, and decorate the walls with wide panels. You will get a beautiful and practical interior, which will appeal to children of all ages. Wooden furniture will be a successful addition to this design solution.

Interior styles “loving” wood and stone

Classic

Classic style is ideal for wood and stone design. Parquet floors, wide beams, wooden furniture and a luxurious fireplace with a stone frame are frequent guests in a luxurious interior. Materials of different textures and deep natural colors are welcome.

Country

This interior style is very versatile and mysterious. Stone and wood are the best materials for finishing the floor. They can be partially present on the walls, in the furniture, on the ceiling. A special place in the design is taken by wooden furniture of simple, but original forms.

High-tech

High-tech is a minimalist direction, so extra details are inappropriate here. The first place in the design is a combination of stone and glass. The wood in the design will serve as an auxiliary element.

Modern

In this style, massive wooden staircases, fancy stone figures, panels, cornices look organic. And columns decorated with tiles or slats will be a great accent for bedrooms and living rooms.

Eco

In the eco-direction, design with wood and stone is a must. The materials can be present on walls, ceilings and flooring. Wooden furniture on stone legs will fit well in such a design.

Rustic

One of the most interesting styles involves the predominance of wood decor. Stone can be used as an interesting detail. The photo is an example of a successful ensemble of materials.

Options for decorating with wood

If you want a dramatic change in design, use wood to decorate the walls instead of wallpaper. It is not necessary to buy expensive materials – the future elements of decoration may well be on hand.

Wooden walls

You can finish the surfaces with batten, laminate, parquet boards, chipboard, sawtooth, veneer panels. The wall does not have to be smooth – a little relief will add creativity to the interior. A bold option is the decor from the ends of the sawtooths. Strongly protruding elements are convenient to use as shelves for small things.

Wooden slats

If you decorate one wall and the ceiling with thin slats, you will get a memorable stylish decoration. Decorative slats should be used proportionally – an overabundance of elements will overlap the overall stylistic ensemble.

Partitions

Partitions are an excellent tool for zoning rooms. Many are accustomed to constructions made of plasterboard, but products made of wood look no less organic. You can buy or build your own vertical or horizontal partitions from battens, treated trunks, slats and branches.

Barn boards in the interior

Barn boards are elements of wooden structures: houses, barns, outbuildings. Such details are of particular value, because it is easy to create unique design compositions from them.

To use the boards, you need to pre-treat them with special compounds against insects and fungus. Nail marks and scuffs do not need to be removed – they give the decor a special charm.

With the material you can lay the floor covering or decorate the walls. For this purpose, it is better to take pine, eucalyptus and oak boards. They have stunning patterns, good durability and interesting textures.

You can use in the decor of imitation old boards. The products look no different from the barn elements and have similar qualities. They are ideal for the manufacture of wooden partitions.

Wooden decorations in the interior

From wood you can make any elements of decor – from candlesticks to wall panels. There are many designer pieces on sale that can set a new tone to the decoration. We offer a selection of original decorations for any budget.

Compositions from sawn wood for room décor

You can use wood as an original accent for any room, placing objects from wood spokes in the rooms. For example:

  • Stylish clocks;
  • Stands for dishes;
  • Vases;
  • Shelves;
  • Panels;
  • Frames for pictures and mirrors.

It is not difficult to make such decorations – it’s just a matter of imagination and availability of materials. We offer a video as a source of inspiration and ideas.

If you decide to create decor with your own hands, do not forget about the proper treatment of surfaces. Be sure to cover each element with a protective agent or varnish. Paints are undesirable – they can disturb the texture of the material.

It is possible to glue thin sawtooths on the walls, having previously prepared the surface. A nuance – it is better to take different in size, but about the same thickness of the elements. If some detail will stand out strongly, the stylistic picture will be broken.

Stone in the interior: types and features

For decorating, you can use both natural and artificial materials, which are absolutely not inferior in terms of their external qualities. Let’s tell in detail about the most popular variants of stone for design.

Artificial

Due to the low weight of such a stone is easier to fix on the surface than the real one. And it also has a rich color palette, so you can easily pick up the right shade for decoration. Artificial stone and wood in the interior look very natural and luxurious, fit into different styles and complement interior compositions.

Gypsum

Such stone is made of a durable safe mineral. It looks great as a finish for any premises. The gypsum material is easy to work with: no additional sanding or tedious cleaning is required. After manipulation with such a stone in the room almost no dust will remain.

Acrylic

It is a material made of acrylic resin, mineral particles and special dyes. Due to its non-porous structure, it has high strength and durability. Suitable for stairs, furniture and finishing elements for bathrooms.

Quartz

Quartz stone is suitable for finishing and production of interior items. It is often used to make steps for stairs, window sills, countertops, bars and floor coverings. The material requires careful treatment, but looks great as a decoration.

Natural

It is an expensive and exquisite material, an inevitable attribute of luxury interiors. For finishing walls and floor most often used: onyx, marble, decorative slate, agate. It is possible to make a kitchen apron, a bar counter or an island, a facet for a fireplace portal with natural stone.

Options for stone decorations

Stone in the interior of a wooden house is widely used for wall decoration. It can be both auxiliary and an independent decorative element. Let’s consider the ways that characterize the second option.

Stone plates

Stone slabs are worthy of a place in your design project. They are suitable for decorating walls and floors in any room of the house. It is a practical material that looks expensive, does not require careful maintenance, and is resistant to changes in humidity and temperature. In the photo you can see how the boards transform the interior.

Stone masonry

The meaning of the decor is to fix the stones on the wall with an adhesive composition. When laying out the elements, it is important to observe a certain order, so that there are no large gaps between the parts. If the room is high humidity, it is better to use natural stone, because plaster and concrete modifications in such conditions quickly lose their external properties.
